The electric C-Class presents a familiar badge with a different ownership question. Its significance for an American buyer will depend on the complete package: range under a U.S. test procedure, charging on a real journey and the price of the version actually offered. A European range headline cannot answer all three.
Mercedes-Benz's April 20, 2026 U.S. launch announcement identifies the first model as the 2027 C 400 4MATIC Electric. It lists 483 horsepower, 590 lb-ft, a 94-kWh usable battery and an estimated 3.9-second zero-to-60-mph time. These remain manufacturer specifications and estimates; AutoGlob has not tested the car.
Range needs a test label
The announcement's European figure reaches 762 kilometers, or about 473 miles, under WLTP. It is not an EPA range rating. Mercedes said the U.S. EPA figure would follow, so this article does not turn the WLTP number into a promised American range or apply an arbitrary conversion factor.
A standardized rating is useful once its procedure and configuration are clear. It still is not a guarantee for a cold motorway trip with luggage, high speed and repeated fast-charging stops. When U.S. specifications are finalized, compare the exact wheels and version rather than transferring the largest number across the range.
Peak charging is one point on a curve
Mercedes announces up to 330 kW of DC charging and a 10-to-80-percent session in about 22 minutes under suitable conditions. The useful distinction is between peak power and the time needed to add a meaningful amount of energy. A car does not remain at its maximum charging rate throughout a session.
For trip planning, look for later independent measurements that show the whole session, starting battery temperature and state of charge. Then consider where suitable stations sit along your route, how often they are available and what they cost. An impressive peak cannot compensate for a charging stop in the wrong place.
Home charging raises another practical question. Electricity rates, installation requirements and available parking can change the economics more than an acceleration claim. A charging-cost calculator is useful for a first estimate, but a generic loss assumption is not a measurement of this Mercedes.
What remains open for a purchase decision
The launch announcement targets U.S. arrival in the first half of 2027. That schedule is a manufacturer's plan, not proof that a particular dealer has stock. The announcement does not establish a U.S. starting price. An assumed price would make the comparison look more complete than the evidence allows.
Wait for a dated U.S. price, destination charge, EPA rating and equipment list before comparing it with a gasoline C-Class or another EV. A badge can make a new product immediately recognizable. The evidence that makes it a sensible purchase arrives in several stages, and those stages should stay visible.
