Coinbase Adds Ripple’s RLUSD as Stablecoin Distribution Broadens
RLUSD is available across Coinbase’s retail and institutional platforms. Planned collateral support remains a later step, distinct from today’s launch.

Coinbase added Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin to its retail and institutional platforms on Wednesday, widening access to another dollar-backed token inside a major U.S. cryptocurrency business. The launch covers Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and the retail app. Customers in supported regions can trade and manage the token, according to the companies' announcements.
Deposits and withdrawals are supported across the XRP Ledger, Base and Ethereum, with conversion from U.S. dollars into RLUSD at a one-to-one rate. The practical development is distribution: customers can access the asset through platforms they already use. That is different from evidence that all existing payment or treasury operations will immediately switch to the token.
Ripple said availability for Coinbase Global Exchange customers, including the ability to use RLUSD as collateral, would follow. The announcement did not give a launch date for that stage. Treating a planned collateral feature as already operating would overstate the scope of Wednesday's release and blur the difference between spot access and financing activity.
An exchange listing improves access, not every part of settlement
A stablecoin needs more than reserve assets to become useful in an operating workflow. Customers need places to acquire it, systems that accept it and reliable ways to convert it back into bank money. Adding retail and institutional access points can remove one source of friction, but each business still has its own operating and compliance requirements.
Coinbase Prime, a retail application and an exchange address different customer needs. An institution arranging custody and execution is not doing the same thing as an individual buying a token. TTN's coverage of a separate USDC settlement pilot explains why access to a token and integration into a payment process should be evaluated as different milestones.
Support across three networks also does not make every transfer interchangeable. The sender and recipient must use compatible services and the correct network for the particular transaction. Ripple's redemption documentation identifies network-specific requirements, including fees and destination information. The announcement expands the available routes; it does not remove the operating details associated with each one.
The reserve and redemption terms remain important
RLUSD's user terms identify Standard Custody & Trust Company as the issuer and describe reserves of liquid assets maintained to support outstanding tokens. They distinguish a general holder from a customer eligible to redeem directly with Ripple. A holder's ability to sell on an exchange and an eligible customer's contractual redemption route are related but different arrangements.
The same terms say Ripple does not guarantee that RLUSD will always trade at exactly one dollar on unaffiliated platforms. A one-dollar redemption framework therefore should not be mistaken for a promise that every secondary-market trade has the same price. Our stablecoin guide explains the distinction between reserve backing, redemption access and the price available in a particular market.
Ripple publishes reserve information and monthly third-party attestations. Its transparency page displayed balances dated October 22, before this listing announcement. Those dated disclosures should be read on their own terms, rather than presented as a real-time audit of every token issued or transaction completed after the Coinbase launch.
Commercial reach is separate from token-price speculation
Ripple said it would provide liquidity for RLUSD on Base. That commitment concerns the stablecoin's use and market access; it does not establish a predictable return for XRP holders. RLUSD, XRP and shares in Coinbase represent different assets and economic claims. Their names appearing in one partnership announcement does not make their risks or potential cash flows identical.
For Coinbase, adding another issuer gives customers a broader choice of settlement assets. For Ripple, the new distribution route increases the opportunity to compete for actual usage. The relevant evidence after launch will be functioning access, usable liquidity and any separately confirmed collateral rollout. Wednesday establishes that the listing is live, while leaving the scale of subsequent adoption to be demonstrated.
