Car Depreciation Calculator

Enter a starting value and a projection period from 1 to 15 years. See a year-by-year scenario using the fixed depreciation schedule explained below.

How to estimate future car value

Enter a starting value and a whole number of years from 1 to 15. The tool applies an illustrative annual depreciation schedule to that starting value. It does not look up a vehicle's market price, age, mileage or condition.

Depreciation assumptions and example

The modeled annual reductions are 20%, 15%, 12%, 10%, 9%, 8%, 7%, 7%, 6% and 6%, followed by 6% annually through year 15. Each reduction applies to the previous year's remaining value.

For a starting value of $30,000, the model gives $24,000 after year one, $20,400 after year two and $17,952 after year three. These are scenario outputs, not predicted sale prices.

Car depreciation calculator questions

Does this estimate a trade-in offer?

No. It uses a generic schedule rather than live dealer or auction data.

Can I use it for a used car?

You can enter any starting value, but the schedule always starts at its first modeled year. It is not adjusted to the car's actual age.

Does it account for mileage and condition?

No. Mileage, damage, service history, location and demand are not inputs in this calculator.
