VIN Decoder
Enter any 17-character Vehicle Identification Number to see its make, model, year, engine, body style and manufacturing plant. Data comes directly from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vPIC database — free, no sign-up, no API key.
How to use the free VIN decoder
- Find the 17-character VIN on the windshield dashboard plate, door label or vehicle documents.
- Enter the letters and numbers exactly as shown, without spaces.
- Select Decode VIN to request the vehicle data from NHTSA.
What a VIN lookup can tell you
Available fields can include make, model, model year, body style, engine and assembly plant. Some fields may be missing, depending on the manufacturer's data. This is a vehicle specification lookup, not a title or accident-history report.
VIN decoder questions
Is the VIN lookup free?
Yes. AutoGlob requires no sign-up and queries the public NHTSA vPIC API. The VIN you enter is sent to NHTSA to perform the lookup.
Does a VIN decoder show accidents or ownership?
No. This tool does not provide crash records, service records, title status or a list of owners.
Why are some fields blank?
Not every VIN has a value for every field in the database. An incomplete result is not confirmation that a vehicle lacks that feature.
